Bob Hill was raised in Akron and graduated from Buchtel High School where his interests were athletics and stage production. Bob and his wife Sara (Hartzler) lived in California for many years where they raised two children. After retiring from a career in sales, they returned to Sara's hometown of Ashland. They have three grandchildren who attend public schools in another district.
Bob is active in local senior citizens' affairs and is coach to the residents of Brethern Care Village for the use of personal computers and the Internet. He is a volunteer tutor of elementary school students and promotes community members' participation in various tutoring and literacy projects. He has worked since 2002 to obtain funding for the operation of the Ashland City School District.
