RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION
The purpose of an RTI meeting is to provide support to any staff member who wants additional assistance in strategies to use with students for academic, behavioral or emotional needs. Through this process staff members share strategies and provide support to each other to best meet a student's needs. The district's RTI process begins with the general education teacher. If you have a concern regarding your child please talk with the teacher first to decide what interventions need to take place to help your child be more successful.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
In an effort to serve young people with disabilities, school districts in Ohio are in the process of locating and evaluating children from 3-21 years of age. Disabilities may include developmental delays, health impairments, autism, and traumatic brain injury. Individuals may contact the local school district about children who may have a disability and may be eligible for special education services. - IDEA - Individuals with Disabilities Education and Improvement Act
- The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that assures children and youth with disabilities a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. Federal and State laws require school districts to evaluate children who have suspected disabilities. These laws affect all school-aged children educated within the Ashland City School District boundaries and all preschool children who live within the Ashland City School District. If you have concerns about your child’s ability or skills and suspect there may be a disability, please contact your child’s teacher, principal, or the Student Services/Special Education office at 419-289-1117.

- Each year, the Ashland City School District receives Part-B IDEA Special Education funds from the federal government to assist in providing services to students with disabilities. These funds help to provide instructional and paraprofessional staff, along with instructional materials and supplies.Questions and suggestions concerning the use of these funds for students with special needs can be directed to Ashland City School's Director of Student Services Kristy Tucker at (419) 289-1117.
